Veronika, born in Czech Republic, came to the UK in 2004 and worked as an air hostess and Office Administrator. She travelled to Africa in 2009 and her big dream was born. In November 2010 she registered Whisper with the Charity Commission and in May 2011 opened her first Children's home and school. Veronika spends many weeks in Uganda working on new projects. Her work is voluntary.
Antonio is a passionate and talented global photographer. In 2009, he visited Africa for the first time and so began a life changing experience for him. His big heart for people, especially children, inspired him to become a trustee and treasurer for Whisper. He has been volunteering for Whisper ever since and has spent many challenging months in Uganda. He is co-director and founder of One World Orphanage.
Koryn was born in Australia but has been calling London home since 1999. Her love of yoga made her want to give back to her community and she started volunteering at her local yoga centre a few years ago. Being of service further inspired her to support Whisper's charity in the early stages of development and later come on board as trustee and secretary. In March 2011 she travelled to Uganda to help set up One World Orphanage and teach yoga to orphaned and underprivileged village children. She is now teaching yoga to children in London and is working on her project Yoga Smiles that she is excited to be bringing to Uganda.
Emmanuel is a local Ugandan man who has been a pastor at the local church in Mutai and performing ministry work for the last 10 years. Emmanuel met Veronika and Antonio in 2009 at a shoe market and since then they have never been separated. Emmanuel strives to make a difference to the children in his community and he has volunteered for Whisper for the last 3 years. Emma is a committee member for One World Orphanage and he became employed by Whisper in June 2011 as a community outreach worker.
Alex is from Uganda and is also a pastor in Mutai. Alex and Emmanuel met doing ministry work in Jinja, 4 years ago. Alex's life long dream was to open an orphanage home and primary school for unprivileged children. In February 2011 he introduced Veronika and Antonio to Mutai village where they began their work. He worked voluntarily for months alongside the Whisper team to realize his dream. He is a committee member for One World Orphanage and became employed by Whisper in June 2011 as a community outreach worker
Daniel comes from Mutai village and he learnt about our project in 2010. He is also a pastor and has been volunteering and helping ever since we started to work on the One World Orphanage re-decoration and improvements. He has worked from early mornings to late nights painting the whole house. He is also doing lots of ministry work in the villages and researches orphans background.
Joseph is a very nice resident of Mutai village, ex government officer and a committee member for One World Orphanage & Education. He performs all his work on a voluntary basis.
Lucky is a wonderful woman and an excellent teacher employed by Whisper at One World Orphanage & Education. She is extremely dedicated, loving, and caring but also a strict teacher. She works hard every day, even during children's holiday, because children have missed lots of hours of education in their past. We are so grateful to have Lucky's dedicated teaching and passion for helping to educate our children so that they may secure a better future.
William is One World Orphanage's chief gardener and he is doing a brilliant job. He is extremely strong and hard working man who never complains and always likes to finish whatever he starts. He has also built a wooden shelter for visitors to the orphanage, a wooden house for chickens and dogs, and he is taking care of all of our food crops that provide organic and nutritious food for the children at the orphanage.
Yunisu he is our second gardener, and is an expert in growing delicious tomatoes! You have never tasted a tomato until you have tasted one of these!. Although he is partly blind, he still able to work hard every day to earn a living to take care of his 3 children. He is always punctual and a very loving man.
Simon, he is our dedicated security guard. He is so proud of his job and takes so much care to secure our premises at night. He works every single night, all night. In addition he collects many jerry cans of water every morning and evening from the local water bore (as there is no running water of course), and also helps out our gardeners and even dug the 30 foot deep pits for the toilets. He is an unbelievably strong man, he never complains and he has never taken a day off since he was employed by Whisper.
Harriet comes from Mutai village and was a wonderful help to us, by cooking for our staff during our building works. She is now employed as a mama at the orphanage, working very hard, cooking, cleaning and taking care of the children. She is very humble lady who is willing to always improve. She has the same desire as Whisper - helping children. She is very loving and caring and gives the children lots of love. In her free time she sings and plays with them.
