Kaka (00:25 to 00:53): This situation only works for the rich and they are the only people gaining from it, at the expense of the poor who suffer because they don't know anybody in the leadership. When they seek help from the leaders all they do is to harass them and send them away. I request the government to give authority just as the president said earlier to the LC1 chairpersons [heads of village councils] to grant permission to those who seek to use their own transport to access the health facilities. Kaka (01:03 to 01:44): In this covid-19 situation you will find that there are many other diseases affecting people such as malaria, anaemia etc just like the sick child you saw who had been brought in as an emergency. You find that patients like that cannot get help to access health facilities so in desperation they opt to use a motorcycle taxi although even then, taxi drivers fear being arrested and beaten up by security men or parents fear that when they do find transport they will be charged a high fare so they resort to walking long distances with their children on their back and by the time they reach the hospital they are in a bad state. Dr Atuhaire (02:17 to 02:59): At our facility we have preventive measures to control the spread of covid-19, for example patients are told to wash their hands with soap provided at the entrance and also to wash before entering the facility. We also provide our patients and the medical staff with masks because the virus is spread through inhaling it through your nose and mouth so these masks help us so much to curb the spread of the disease from person to person. We even teach people to watch out for the signs of this new virus such as joint pains, headache, sneezing, coughing with a sore throat. When this happens, we tell them to seek medical assistance from the nearest health facilities. Dr Ben (03:08 to 03:31): Before we think of coronavirus killing us we should be mindful of other diseases such as high blood pressure, malaria etc. Whenever we are affected by them we should ensure that we attend to them before they kill us. This will enable us to survive during this period. Guardian (03:39 to 03:46): All transport services have been shut down. For us who have sick children who are even anaemic we are helpless and we don't know what to do. Guardian (03:46 to 04:01): I had to walk 15km with my sick child to Whisper's hospital because I couldn't get transport and even if I could find any they are afraid to take us because they were stopped by the government so I had to walk to this hospital with my sick child. News Anchor (04:01 to 04:15): As we talk most beds in Whisper's hospital are empty because it's hard to get transport. Those who are brave enough to transport people risk being arrested or beaten by security officials. And the patients who are transported are charged a high fare.
